The results
of the two most recent Eastman member surveys, one in 2010 and one in 2007 are
very similar. Is this why Governance does not want to do another one, unless it
is carefully crafted? Households responding in 2007 were 752 and in 2010 were
757. Primarily the most requested items in both surveys were:
· 76% (or 575 members) in 2010 wanted to
have an advisory referendum for
capital expenditures of $1 million or more—IGNORED by the COUNCIL.
· 54% (or 404 members) in 2007 and 64% (or 484 members) in 2010 wanted walking paths— IGNORED by the BOARD.
· 56% (or 417 members) in 2007 and 59% (or 447 members) in 2010 wanted bike paths— IGNORED by the BOARD.
Outside of
Eastman the living trends that are increasing in demand:
· Desirable communities to live in
increasingly have walking and biking
paths:
--Colorado Springs, CO-- Nature lovers enjoy the sunny skies and fresh mountain air of
Colorado Springs’ many parks, trails,
and open-air spaces…
--Peabody, MA
--You may not have heard of Peabody, but this quaint New England seaport
village has a lot to offer, including the Independence Greenway Bike Route…
--Denver, CO--A
highly walkable (and bikeable) city…

the 2010 Survey showed that 80% of respondents eat at the restaurant (Bistro) once/month or less.
What has
Governance done to address members’ wants at Eastman?
In seven years we have dumped more than $4 million in
capital funds into the golf course and golf vehicles. We have lowered golf
membership fees by 25% and now we want to spend +/- $3 million on “renovating” a
16 year-old Center/Restaurant, while at the same time telling residents that we’ll
get to walking paths perhaps by 2020.
