Compromise

If all members are to be involved in a “compromise” on how our money is being spent, then such a process needs to be all-inclusive where all are equal.

Tearing down buildings generates planet waste. A far more practical solution is to update and improve an office or residence that is 40 years old or more. This is exactly what most homeowners do, improving insulation, replacing the electric heating system, gradually improving the R factor on windows and sliding doors.

I do not know what kind of environmentalists believe the destruction of buildings or replacement of five-year-old vehicles is healthy for the planet. Normally, environmentalists advocate diminishing use of fossil fuel vehicles as well as reduced usage of wasteful facilities such as underutilized commercial buildings. More responsible entities like many colleges, work at full utilization over 12 months of the building.

Environmentalists in Eastman Governance would be advocating for:
1)    Optimization of existing buildings 12 months of the year with dramatic decrease in winter months because of fuel and demand requirements.
2)    Reducing the need to drive to the Post Office by 90% of ECA residents.
3)    Mandating walking and bicycle paths throughout the community reducing fuel consumption.
4)    Stopping the use of gas burning golf carts.
5)    Mandating longer life practices for buildings and vehicles. This would include accountability of energy burning by building and by vehicle.
6)    Mandating a minimalistic environmental infrastructure. This would include elimination of the restaurant, which is an unnecessary burning of fossil fuel on wasted space and the opportunity for more committees to meet in order to police those members who do not have the time to know what is going on with these committees.
7)    No new build. It is environmentally destructive and irresponsible. The current Sustainability Committee is no more than a marketing ploy. It supported the collusion in the case of the acquisition of the Eastman Sewer Company.
