This is really
important because the Chair of the Council, acting as an agent of the Board,
felt so strongly about getting the money for the rebuild of the Center, (it should be noted that he is on record as
saying he thinks there should be even more buildings at Eastman) that he
tried to exercise his understanding of Article VI 6.2 (g) of the Covenants which states:
6.2 The Council shall:
...
(g) have the right to
conduct ongoing oversight of Special Place governance to ensure that the
obligations of Special Place leadership as set forth in Article IV hereof are
being met and the membership is fairly served.
Council Chair Bob
Parker stated he would attend 2 SP meetings including mine, Burpee Hill, the
weekend before the June Council Meeting, and that the CRC WILL do a presentation
on the Center project under his supervision, regardless of what SP Chairs
already had on the agenda, and that he (BP) would send an email to all SP members
stating his intentions. This fell somewhat short when he encountered resistance
however he appeared at 2 Special Place meetings with 2 CRC members, uninvited.
The SP Chairs were told that Bob Parker will be an "observer", and
would be acting under the authority of the CRC (which has no authority unless it comes from Mr. Goldman). I
considered this an affront to our SP meeting. If I showed up at a Board
Workshop or Executive Council Meeting uninvited, I would be shown the door. We have
a double standard. To further keep things behind the veil, there was no mention
of any of this in our SP minutes of the meeting-- even after several people
mentioned to the Chair and secretary that the minutes were lacking.
There was a time when
SP Chairs worked for the benefit of the SP members. It is unclear whether they
are now working for the Council Chair. There was a time when the Council Chair
was independent of the Board. It is now unclear whether he is working for the
Board President. There is no check and balance when the lines are as blurred as
this. Do you understand now why your costs are going up and your property value
is going down?
